Lawn aeration

Aeration benefits – How to aerate a lawn

Benefits of Aerating

Aerating your lawn is an easy and affordable way to improve your soil health, regardless of the season. This simple soil maintenance technique can provide your lawn’s roots with the oxygen and nutrients they need. Aeration will also allow air and water to penetrate the soil, which helps break up compaction and improve water penetration into the root zone. When you increase the oxygen and water levels in the root zone, you give your grass a healthy boost!

Aeration will also break up the thatch layer – a collection of dead roots, stems and leaves that lay in your lawn’s surface. This helps you better manage weeds, which can reduce the amount of time you spend mowing and watering.

Aeration and YOU – How to aerate your lawn

Aeration is a basic gardening skill that helps improve your soil’s texture and water-holding capacity, boosts plant growth and improves the health of the entire landscape. And luckily aeration can be done in just a few easy steps:

  1. Mark sprinkler heads, shallow utility lines and any other objects you do not wish to aerate with flour or another substance that will allow you to see where those areas are.
  2. To aerate your lawn, “mow” it with the aerator. You may want to target compaction-prone areas (with heavy foot traffic) for a second pass.
  3. Leave the soil plugs on your lawn. Let them dry for a few days, then break them up with the back of a rake and spread them over your grass as compost. They will add organic material to help decompose thatch while feeding nutrients back into the earth.
  4. Apply fertilizer! This is the opportune moment for lawn enhancements. If you haven’t already fertilized, now is the time to set your new grass up for success. Spread compost over your lawn and rake it into the holes to give your lawn a nutrient boost.

  1. My favorite part of your blog is when you said that the soil in the lawn can be provided with the oxygen and nutrients that it needs when you consider lawn aeration services. My husband and I are interested in achieving a greener lawn before this year ends, so we are looking for the most effective ways. For sure, we will hire a reliable lawn aeration service to have peace of mind that the job is going to be completed right the first time.

  2. Oh, yeah! I think the fact that proper aeration would make our soil a lot more nutritious really enlightened me. There’s no way my cousin should ignore this tip considering he intends to beautify his front lawn this summer. I’ll tell him to check out this article and then call a landscaper fast.
